Learn to Race

Saskatchewan Sailing Clubs Association
Learn to Race!

Looking to get more involved in sailing? Interested in attending local or provincial regattas? Interested in joining a training group to sail more regularly? Sask Sailing has multiple levels to provide additional training opportunities for young athletes and to support travel to racing events in and out of Saskatchewan.

Learn to Race – Race Squads

Sask Sailing’s Race Squads are beginner-friendly training groups designed for sailors who have just finished a week with the Mobile Sailing School, have done some basic sailing on their own, and want to keep going. These novice-level squads, based out of Regina Sailing Club and Blackstrap Sailing Club, give new sailors structured coaching, time on the water, and an introduction to the basics of racing in a supportive setting.
In these squads we sail the ILCA’s. These boats are designed for one person with one sail. Ideal for progressing individual skills while learning to compete with others. The Race Squads act as the first step in Saskatchewan’s performance pathway, helping novice sailors build fundamental skills, gain confidence on the water and, if they choose, progress toward the provincial team.
The Race Squads aim for one evening training session every week while having the opportunity to sail at regattas most weekends. The race squad will sail at several club regattas and provincial regattas throughout the season.

Checklick
Checklick is the Sail Canada approved platform for tracking the skills and accomplishments of all sailors in Canada. Saskatchewan Sailing also uses this platform for course bookings, descriptions, payments, and to accredit sailors after successful completion of their course.

Provincial Race Team

The Saskatchewan Provincial Sailing Team is the high-performance end of the Sask Sailing pathway. Sailors on the team focus on advanced boat handling, race strategy, fitness, and competing at major regattas across Western Canada and beyond. It’s where committed racers get the chance to represent Saskatchewan at inter-provincial and national events. Underneath all the kit, travel plans, and regattas, the team exists to help drive future athletes to reach their competitive potential.
