ILCA-NA District 5

The International Laser Class Association of North America (ILCA-NA) District 5 covers Alberta and Saskatchewan, bringing sailors from both provinces together under one district. It supports ILCA sailing at every level, from people just getting started to those competing at a high level. Throughout the district there are learn to sail courses, racing courses, racing events, and sailors who regularly compete at National/ International Level.

Our District runs a shared calendar of regattas, including the annual District Championship (Held in Alberta or Saskatchewan) and a District Series (Two events in Saskatchewan and two events in Alberta). Given the size of the area, there’s a strong emphasis on cooperation between clubs to keep racing active and accessible. District 5 plays a practical role in maintaining competition, connecting sailors, and continuing to build the class across the prairies.

District 5 Championships

At the ILCA-NA District 5 Championship, sailors are awarded ranking points based on their finishing position in each fleet. These points contribute to district standings and may also count toward broader ILCA North America rankings.

District 5 Series

The ILCA-NA District 5 Series is a season-long points competition made up of four regattas held across Alberta and Saskatchewan. Sailors earn points at each event based on their finishing position in their fleet, and those results are combined to produce an overall series ranking.

District 5 Series Scoring

The District 5 Series is a four-event ILCA circuit across Alberta and Saskatchewan (two regattas in each province), where sailors earn points at each event based on finishing position (30 points for 1st, 29 for 2nd, decreasing by one point per place to a minimum of 1). A sailor’s overall series score is the sum of their best three results (their lowest score is discarded). For more information see the ILCA-NA D5 Series Scoring Guidelines here.
